Say ‘cheers’ to Beer Mile contest

If you want to see what someone looks like when running after drinking four beers, head to the Bermuda Athletics Association Field this evening.

In the Island’s first official Beer Mile contest, each of the participants’ four laps of the track must be preceded by the downing of a 12oz can of beer.

According to organisers, Bermuda Timing Systems, it’s something a bit different from the races and triathlons they usually service throughout the year.

Organiser Ian Morrison said: “So far we’ve had up to 75 entries but we’re hoping for even more. It’s just going to be a fun event, not to be taken too seriously, but we will be enforcing a strict 18 and up age limit. We encourage people to come out to have a good time and try something new.”

The event starts at 6pm. Fees are $20 for individual races and $80 for teams.
