Man injured in Southampton fire

A man was injured in a fire at a Southampton home in the early hours of yesterday morning.

At about 2.11am, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to the blaze on Jennings Bay Road with one appliance from the Port Royal Station and four personnel.

“On arrival, smoke and flames were emitting from the upper unit of a two storey dwelling,” Sergeant Jamal Albuoy said. “Firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus manned with a fire hose line entered the unit and quickly brought the fire under control.”

A male occupant sustained burn injuries to his hands and was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical treatment.

“At this time, his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening,” Sergeant Albuoy said.

The fire, which was extinguished by 2.23am, was contained to one room with heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the premises.
