Marshall leads the way in Atlanta

Ready to run: The 17 members of Swan's Running Club who took part in the Peachtree 10K Road Race in Atlanta

Former Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby champion Larry Marshall led home 17 members of the Swan’s Running Club in one of the world’s largest road races, the Peachtree 10K in Atlanta. The Bermuda contingent took part in the July 4 event with an estimated 55,000 other runners.

Marshall, 32, finished a commendable 346th overall in 39min and 2sec. The next finisher for Swan’s was Kevin Anderson, in 48:25, followed by the club’s first women Zina Jones in 53:11.

The race was won by British Olympian Scott Overall in 29:30. In a sprint finish he pipped American Ben Payne who had prematurely started celebrating before reaching the finishing line. The fastest woman was American Alexi Pappas in 33:28.

The other Swan’s Running Club finishers were Hatty Manocchi in 59:51; Mayberline Black 1:00:02; Alshia Lugo 1:00:33; Beverly Hayward 1:03:39; Raymond Ming 1:04:32; Precious Woolridge 1:05:55; Christine Joell 1:06:33; Terry Dates 1:06:33; Florence Sharpe-Trott 1:09:51; Karen Perinchief 1:11:52; Edwina Arorash 1:13:02; Sandra Ming 1:21:51; Donna Mae Arorash 1:26:09 and George Jones in 1:44:31.

n The Healthy Choice 5K Road Race takes place in Devonshire this Sunday. The race will start and finish at the Butterfield & Vallis building on Orange Valley Road. There is a competitive and non-competitive 5K walk at 8.15am, with the 5K race starting at 8.30am.

Entries can be made online at www.racedayworld.com until 6pm on Friday. There will be late entries at the bib number pick-up on Saturday morning between 10am and 12 noon at Butterfield and Vallis on Orange Valley Road.
