Women in Reinsurance boosts online presence

Online: The Women in Reinsurance website

A group for women working in reinsurance has boosted its online presence.

Women in Reinsurance has set up a new website, blog and LinkedIn group for members.

Kathleen Reardon, CEO of the Hamilton Re and chairman of Women in Reinsurance, said: “Our goal is to make it easier to communicate with our members and provide valuable information about professional training, news and networking events.”

The website highlights membership requirements, benefits, events and professional development resources.

The blog will focus on news and trends in reinsurance and will also include announcements about women promoted or hired in the Bermuda reinsurance market, while the members-only LinkedIn group aims to provide another way of networking.

Ms Reardon said that a PwC poll of 600 working women between the ages of 18 and 35 found that 64 per cent felt their employer was not doing enough to encourage diversity, while 80 per cent believed that, while their company talked about diversity, opportunities were not equal for all.

She added: “It’s clear our industry must to more to ensure women have, and are clearly seen to have, equal opportunities to climb the career ladder.

“By publicising successes and providing and online platform for advice and membership, Women in Reinsurance can help change these perceptions about our industry and support women in their efforts to take the next steps up the ladder.”

Women in Reinsurance, founded in 2008, now has 160 members.

The website is at wwww.wirebermuda.com, while the LinkedIn group can be found at Wire Bermuda. Membership applications can be downloaded from the website.
