Pandemonium erupted after Nikki Bascome dropped opponent Claudele Duprier to the canvass to secure a dramatic knockout victory as Saturday night’s Extreme Entertainment Knock Out Night at Bermuda College Gym lived up to its billing.

The crowd rushed to their feet and danced around the ring in wild celebration after the referee stopped the bout forty seconds into the third round after deciding that Duprier had taken enough punishment brought on by a flurry of combinations from the orthodox Bascome.

Bascome’s unrelenting assault was the final act of a professional debut gone horribly wrong for Duprier who was simply out of his depth against a superior opponent.

“It all went according to how I thought it would go,” Bascome said. “I kind of envisioned this already and it’s all about bringing your dream to fruition. I had a vision and I went for it and it all just came naturally.”

Duprier took the fight to Bascome from the opening bell, pinning him against the ropes as he tried to find a way through with a series of combinations.

Bascome defended himself well during the early exchanges, and after weathering the storm peppered Duprier with two big rights to the head to end the opening round on the front foot.

Bascome continued to go to work on Duprier in the second round, keeping the American off balance with his jab and then quickly moving inside to land a series of body blows that took their toll and left no doubt as to who was in control.

Having softened his opponent up, Bascome moved in for the kill, finishing Duprier off in a hurry in the third.

“I was actually surprised he went down after that combination,” Bascome said. “I kind of shocked myself.

“I knew he was going to be aggressive so I just stuck to my jab and boxed. When I caught him with a shot to the body it hurt him so I went back there.”

In the night’s other main event, Lena Taylor record a TKO victory over professional debutant Shae Alvarez to extend her unbeaten streak at this level.

The multiple United States national champion stopped Alavrez one minute and ten seconds into the second round of their lightweight bout to set the tone for the remainder of the night.

“I didn’t really think she was going to last past the third round,” Taylor said. “It probably would have went quicker but she was grabbing a lot. I was just trying to get my space, and I ended up doing that.”

The two main events were preceded by an undercard featuring all amateurs.

In the opening amateur bouts there were wins for: Sharmony Warner over Jared Jimenez; Omar Dill defeated Robert Somner; Antonio Stoneham beat George Cook, via a TKO; and in the final amateur fight Le Jai Tucker, won a split decision against Naizair Roberts.
