Being honoured: James

Elvin James, the Somerset all-rounder, will be among the past Cup Match players honoured at this year’s 11th Annual Emancipation Celebration Awards Luncheon.

James, younger brother of Lloyd James, the St George’s batsman, played five years for Somerset between 1978 and 1982, taking 19 wickets at an average of 20.79 and an economy rate of 3.24.

He was also a member of Somerset’s victorious 1979 team that won the cup under Randy Horton to put an end to a 20-year drought.

Kevin Saunders, Randy Raynor and Winston Reid are the remaining past Somerset players to be recognized this year for their contribution to the game, while a special award will be presented to Yvette Brangman for her outstanding service in the capacity as Somerset’s official Cup Match scorer.

Those being recognized from St George’s include Willie Weldon, Richie Foggo, Ricky Hodsoll and Roger Leverock.

This year’s luncheon will be held on July 19 at the Grotto Bay Hotel, beginning at 1pm.

Tickets are $60 for adults and can purchased at Somerset Cricket Club, St George’s Cricket Club, Brunswick Street Bakery and Nu-Look Barber Shop.
