Royal Palms scoops award

The Royal Palms Hotel has revealed the secret to its award-winning success: a lot of love.

The three-and-a-half star Pembroke hotel defeated competition from all over the world to top a list of exclusive properties with travel website Expedia.com.

According to manager Theresa Harney-Zuill, the honour is one that many others on the Island could replicate.

“We are most thankful to the guests, business clients and staff as well as the owners who are great with designing and maintaining the hotel,” Ms Harney-Zuill told The Royal Gazette.

“Because we are such a small, 32-room, boutique hotel and do not have all the amenities like the Fairmont with numerous restaurants, tennis courts or a spa for example, we strive to meet the needs of the travelling guest, catering to each and every one of them individually.

“A lot of love and thought goes into the property. This is also a testament to Bermuda as a whole and shows what the Island has to offer. We hope to be a benchmark that other hotels strive to be.

“Ascot’s Restaurant is one of the Island’s finest restaurants and has helped to make us what we are. We work hand in hand to provide the type of service each guest expects while on vacation.”

The Expedia 2015 Insiders’ Select rankings is an annual crowd-sourced list of the world’s best-reviewed hotels, and reflects direct customer feedback on Expedia.com.

It names 650 exclusive properties as Insiders’ Select winning hotels from among bookable properties available on Expedia websites across the world.

After Royal Palms, venues in Croatia, Costa Rica, the United States and Japan made up the rest of the top five.

According to a press release from Expedia, the winning hotels were called out as those that consistently deliver value, in the form of competitive pricing, pristine amenities and superior customer service, and by maintaining a minimum guest review score of 4.7 out of 5. The Royal Palms received a score of 4.9.

Ms Harney-Zuill said: “This award is truly a testament to the staff. You have to be passionate and love what you do.

“We are thrilled and had no idea it was coming.”

The top ten hotels in the 2015 Insiders’ Select list were:

• Royal Palms Hotel, Bermuda

• Calenga Apartments, Croatia

• Pumilio Mountain & Ocean Hotel, Costa Rica

• Woolleys Classic Suites, United States

• Dormy Inn Sapporo Annex, Japan

• B+B Edinburgh, United Kingdom

• Hotel Panorama, Italy

• Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa, Thailand

• Hotel Orion Motobu Resort & Spa, Japan

• Best Western Premier Weinebrugge, Belgium

John Morrey, vice president and general manager of Expedia.com, stated: “The simple fact is, every traveller is looking for value out of their hotel experience.

“Value can be defined in many ways by different people. But when you aggregate that feedback, you come away with a list of hotels that simply do it right, day in and day out. For Expedia, when we share a summary of real reviews penned by real hotel customers, we are giving travellers the data they need to make booking decisions.”

Earlier this year Royal Palms was named one of the top 25 hotels in the Caribbean by the Trip Advisor website.
