Quartet in junior golf event

Florida bound: Lamb

Bermuda will be represented at this month’s Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Flying the Island’s banner are Kenny Leseur, Dakota Lamb, Sam Wehmeyer and Elizabeth Parsons who will rub shoulders with some of the world’s most talented young golfers.

Lesuer is competing in the boys 10-11 age group, Lamb in the boys 14-15, Wehmeyer in the boys 16-18 and Parsons in the girls 15-18 division.

Boys in the 10-11, 12-13 and girls 10-12 will play today through Tuesday, the boys 14-15 and girls 13-14 from July 21 to 26 while the boys 16-18 and girls 15-18 will play July 26-31.

The tournament features over 650 players from 22 nations, many of whom have the potential to become leading collegiate and professional golfers in the future.

Former champions of the tournament include PGA Tour players Jonathan Byrd, Jason Day, Bill Haas and Jeff Overton to name a few.

The event will return to PGA National, which has hosted multiple PGA Championships and the Ryder Cup, for the 20th consecutive year. Four top-notch PGA National’s championship layouts will be used for the event – Fazio, Palmer, Squire and the famous “Bear Trap” Champion course.
