Teen admits possessing drugs at school

A Devonshire teenager admitted possessing drugs and drug equipment at a school when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

Cavin Francis, 18, pleaded guilty to having 8.66g of cannabis in his possession with intent to supply at CedarBridge Academy, an increased penalty zone, on December 10 last year.

Francis also admitted possessing digital scales and plastic bags on the same date.

The court heard that Police were called to the school because staff suspected a student to be carrying drugs.

A teacher in the science classroom had smelt cannabis on Francis and detained him.

The drugs were found when the police officers searched his locker and they also recovered the drug equipment from Francis.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a drug assessment and a social inquiry report, and adjourned the matter to September 9 for sentencing. Francis was granted $3,000 bail with a like surety.
