Nightmare start for cyclists

Technical fault: Williams (File photograph by Akil Simmons)

Zoenique Williams and Dominique Mayho both suffered nightmare starts to their Pan Am Games campaigns in yesterday’s time-trial in Milton, Southern Ontario.

Race officials found technical problems with both riders’ bikes, with Williams not even starting the race, while Mayho was unable to finish.

It is understood the required adjustments had been made to Williams’s bike after problems with the height of the seat had emerged during the pre-race check the previous day.

However, before yesterday’s race, Williams was told that there were still problems with the position of the seat, as well as the handle bars. She was unable to make the adjustments in time for the start of the race.

Mayho was also forced to make alterations to his bike and did at least make the start line. However, he struggled with the late changes and pulled out of the race.

Both cyclists are scheduled to compete in Saturday’s road race in Ontario Place.
