Customers are in for a surprise when they next visit Mystique’s Unique in the Bermudiana Arcade on Queen Street.

The shop, which markets itself as “providing functional fashions”, has undergone a makeover and increased its range of stock. All will be revealed at a grand reopening tomorrow.

Owner Mstira Weeks said: “I wanted to achieve a cleaner, modern look and make things more organised for customers and staff. It does feel more spacious.”

This week a number of finishing touches were still in the works. Ms Weeks said a few customers had stopped by to get a sneak-peek at the new look shop, and she summed up their reaction in one word “wow”.

She said: “People are surprised by how much we have accomplished in one week. We got a lot done.”

The shop predominantly sells eyewear and sunglasses, watches and tech accessories such as protective and custom cases for a wide range of smartphones and tablets.

Mystique’s Unique was originally located on the corner of King Street and Reid Street. In 2012 it moved to the ground floor space, formally occupied by C-Travel, in the Bermudiana Arcade.

Ms Weeks prides herself in being able to give one-to-one service to customers.

“It upsets me if I can’t help them, such as when the store is busy and I’m with another customer. I like to engage with clients,” she explained.

Eyewear and sunglasses is the area for which she has the greatest passion. She encourages customers to try a style or colour they might not have considered before. There is a “selfie wall” where customers can take pictures of themselves as they try out shades and glasses — a good way of finding out what others might think when they share the pictures with friends and on social media.

A suitably eye-catching display area has been created for the sunglasses and eyewear. It has a central design resembling a giant pair of glasses complete with two mirrors where customers can check how they look as they try on glasses. Ms Weeks designed the display, which was then created by Bermuda Signs.

The shop’s new look allows a wide range of custom cases to be displayed for various brands of smartphones and tablets. If a customer can’t find what they are looking for, Mystique’s Unique will live up to its name and work with them to create something unique to fulfil their desire.

Uniqueness is a touchstone for the shop. Ms Weeks said: “We have one style of each eyewear item, and the same goes for the phone cases.”

She explained that people like to have variety to chose from and to buy something that is not going to be overly commonplace.

Other items the shop sells, include earphones, chargers, bluetooth headsets, speakers power banks and school bags, and in one section are jewellery, handbags and clothing by local trader Touche.

Ms Weeks said being a retailer is her passion. “I can’t see myself doing anything else. I love helping customers and we get great compliments and have a lot of loyal customers, for which I’m grateful.”

The grand reopening on Saturday will feature refreshments, giveaways and the opportunity to try out “the world’s greatest massage chair” at a 50 per cent discount. There will be music from Lady Blazian and a guest appearance by Hott 107.5’s Brotha Ritchie.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 11am, led by radio DJ Powergirl Trina, Ms Weeks and her daughter Trinity.
