Somers weighs on the BSX

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell a fraction last week as Somers Ltd fell and Polaris Holdings Ltd climbed.

Financial services holding company Somers, which owns Bermuda Commercial Bank, was the biggest loser, falling 50 cents, or 3.6 per cent, over the five days of trading to close the week on $13.50, as 9,100 shares traded.

Dock services firm Polaris, had a positive week, climbing ten cents, or 3.3 per cent, to move off its 52-week low and advance to $3.15, as 300 of its shares changed hands.

Insurer Argus Group Holdings Ltd also advanced last week, gaining one cent, or 0.3 per cent, to close at $4, as 3,400 of its shares were exchanged.

Butterfield Bank’s 8 per cent preference shares gained $1.50, or 0.1 per cent, to close the week on $1,137, as 45 shares traded.

The index closed down three points at 1,243.94. Bermuda Stock Exchange trading volume for the week topped 67,000 shares, while turnover was just shy of $300,000.
