They are rivals when it comes to the cricket — but Sarah Brum and Jill O’Connor are very much on the same team as they whip up excitement ahead of Bermuda’s favourite holiday.

Selling everything from T-shirts and caps to flip flops and purses at Sail On Bermuda in Hamilton, Ms Brum and Ms O’Connor are making sure locals and visitors alike will look the part when they head to the Wellington Oval for Cup Match this Thursday and Friday.

The Cup Match theme has been one of the best sellers for 30 years at the store, located in the Washington Mall.

Ms O’Connor, the manager, said: “It’s an exciting time for customers when they come in here because we have a bit of store rivalry going on between employees. Sarah is for Somerset, and I am for St George’s, and we play a fun game with the customers. But whoever wins, wins. We just have a lot of fun.

“People come here every year looking for a custom shirt and every year they can’t wait to see what the design is. We’re established when it comes to the T-shirts.

“We are extremely busy and as you see from our window and our displays in the store we really push the items. All of the T-shirts and caps sell out every year.”

Among this year’s hot items are tank dresses with a Somerset or St George’s theme, which Ms O’Connor said would be stylish at the beach or barbecue as well as at the cricket.

“Each year we try to do different things, we always try to add something new,” Ms O’Connor added.
