Ciara Rego, who graduated from Mount Saint Agnes Academy last year, has been awarded the KPMG 2015 Scholarship.

She will receive $20,000 during each of her final three years of university study.

Ms Rego is enrolled on a bachelor’s degree in accounting course at St Leo University in Florida. Her goal is to obtain her certified public accounting designation upon completion of university.

The scholarship is awarded by the managing directors of KPMG in Bermuda to a Bermudian student committed to a career as a chartered professional accountant or certified public accountant.

Recipients are placed in the firm’s mentor-driven graduate programme and ensured that every professional step taken is well planned, supported and coupled with a personalised development plan tailored to meet the individual needs of each graduate.

Steve Woodward, managing director, KPMG in Bermuda, said: “Ciara has proven herself to be an excellent candidate. She graduated from Mount Saint Agnes Academy with an outstanding academic record which she continued into her freshman year at university.

“We look forward to welcoming Ciara into our summer internship programme in 2016, and we expect her to join KPMG as a full-time employee on graduation from St Leo University in 2018.

“Ciara has an extremely bright future ahead of her, and KPMG’s graduate programme will provide all the support she needs to allow her to fulfil her potential and achieve her CPA designation.”

Ms Rego said she was honoured to receive the scholarship. She added: “This is just the start to another chapter of my life and the beginning of my journey with KPMG.

“This scholarship will allow me to finish my last three years in university and also offers me a career opportunity within the firm. After obtaining my bachelor’s, I plan to join the CPA US programme at KPMG. All in all, I am highly grateful to be the recipient and this will encourage me to strive for nothing but success.”

Ciara has a background in volunteering and community services and education. She is also a member of the National Women’s Volleyball Association.
