Giving back to the community

Helping out: Khomeini Taalib-Din who plans to donate $1,000 from the Non Mariners cruise to charity

A kind-hearted businessman plans to donate $1,000 raised by his third annual Non-Mariners cruise to charity.

Khomeini Taalib-Din believes in giving back to the community and has chosen the Eliza DoLittle Society to benefit from this year’s #SundayFunday event.

“I think it is important to take a moment to remember that there are those in Bermuda who are less fortunate and need a ‘hand up’,” Mr Taalib-Din said.

“The Eliza DoLittle Society focuses on feeding the Island’s hungry — they provide the most basic of necessities to a growing number of people on the Island.”

He said that by highlighting what the charity does and supporting its cause, he hopes to encourage others to do the same.

According to Mr Taalib-Din, who has chartered the MV Elizabeth for the Work Hard Play Hard Entertainment cruise, the event will be the “best party on the water”.

He said: “It feels great to do something different with regards to Non-Mariners — to donate $1,000 from just an eight hour party rocks.”

Mr Taalib-Din came up with the idea in 2013, donating $500 to charity that year and a $1,000 last year.

He said he started putting on the event because charities in Bermuda have a “huge workload” and do not have an easy task providing assistance to everyone.

Mr Taalib-Din believes that charities and helping services play an important role, and those “of us who can afford to give, either our time, effort or money, should step up and lend a hand”.

Partygoers can expect three DJs, 1,000 free jello shots, complimentary food, snacks and water, giveaways and a “safe environment for people to party hard all day”.

Mr Taalib-Din thanked sponsors Premier Distributors & VK, Mr Chicken and Dunkley’s Dairy, without whom the “event wouldn’t be as successful”, he said.
