Visiting entertainer Jillionaire of the group Major Lazer, which performed last night, provoked a firestorm online with unflattering remarks about Bermuda — comments which were subsequently withdrawn.

By contrast, the reception was all smiles when reggae stars Tanya Stephens and Wayne Wonder arrived and met with the crew of Chewstick, who will get a fundraising boost for their new Culture Hub at 81 Front Street in tonight’s Emancipation Celebration Concert.

They will perform with local musician Mishka and others, with doors opening at 9pm at the Pier 6 Tent on Front Street and the music getting underway at 10pm.

Also representing reggae was Jamaican artist Gyptian, part of the line-up scheduled for the Soca versus Reggae concert set for 9pm tomorrow at Tiger Bay, St George’s.

He joins King Jyrus Sound System to represent the reggae corner, while the soca side replies with 5 Star Akil, Shal Marshall, D’General, DJ Rusty G, and Giselle D Wassi One.
