Burglar sent to Drug Treatment Court

A Sandys man who was linked to four burglaries by his electronic monitoring device has been sent to Drug Treatment Court.

Rayshun Edwards, 25, pleaded guilty to stealing items worth more than $7,990 from four properties and taking a motorcycle without consent when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Edwards had denied the offences at a previous court appearance on July 24.

The court heard that Edwards broke into a Parsonage Lane, Sandys, property, a Gibb’s Hill, Southampton, property, a Church Road, Southampton property and a property on the Railway Trail, Southampton, between January 5 and July 4.

He stole electronic items, jewellery and money, but was tracked to all four properties because he had been fitted with an electronic monitoring device.

The device also tracked Edwards to the location from which a Sym motorcycle was taken without consent in Devonshire on November 25 last year.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Edwards into custody to observe Drug Treatment Court tomorrow for consideration of admission into the programme.
