Bermuda-domiciled insurance and reinsurance firm Argo Group has appointed a new global head of professional lines.

Steve McGill, who starts next month and has 27 years’ experience in the industry, joins the firm from XL Catlin, where he was global product leader for director and officers liability and financial institutions business.

Axel Schmidt, Argo Group chief underwriting officer, said: “We have a clear strategy to evolve and enhance our underwriting across Argo that will also enable profitable growth.”

And he added the appointment of Mr McGill, who will be based in London, was a “key milestone” in reaching company goals.
