Details have been given in Parliament on the bid for the South Basin Land Reclamation project in Dockyard, in which the United States construction firm Jay Cashman, Inc came top.

The project, in preparation for the America’s Cup, came under Opposition fire last month for contracting overseas companies.

Cashman presented a $27.7 million design, with an alternate design projected at $22.8 million, while the local firm Crisson Construction submitted bids of $36.3 million and $29.7 million respectively.

Another Bermudian company, Correia Construction, submitted the lowest bids: $23.2 million for the owner design and $21.7 million for the alternative design. However, the Correia bid was dropped owing to a lack of supporting information, according to Craig Cannonier, the Minister of Public Works, who said further details had not been supplied.

The figures were given in response to parliamentary questions from Lovitta Foggo, the Opposition Whip.

Meanwhile, the supply and delivery of material to fill in the South Basin site was bid upon by three companies.

Correia Construction bid $18.6 million on the barge option, and $19.6 million on the conveyor option.

Island Construction bid $23.3 million and RA Murray submitted a bid of $11.9 million for the project.
