Two men have been banned from the roads for drink-driving offences.

Kaiai White, of Paget, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit in Paget on August 16.

The Crown accepted his plea and offered no evidence on the alternative charge of driving while impaired.

The 24-year-old also admitted speeding at 61km/h.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court that White was stopped for speeding on South Road.

As the officers spoke to him, they smelled alcohol on his breath and noted that his eyes were glazed and his speech was slurred.

When asked if he had been drinking, White replied: “No, I had some juice.”

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where it was determined that he had 92mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood — the legal limit is 80mg.

Magistrate Archibald Warner handed White a $1,500 fine for the drink-driving offence and disqualified him from driving for 18 months.

White was fined another $300 for speeding and given five demerit points on his licence.

In a separate matter, Sean Ferreira, of Smith’s, admitted driving while impaired in Devonshire on August 16.

The court heard that Ferreira was seen riding his motorcycle in a zigzag motion on Middle Road, near the junction with Tee Street.

When he was stopped by police officers, they noticed signs of intoxication and an open beer bottle in the bike’s console.

Ferreira was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he refused to provide a sample of breath for analysis.

Mr Warner handed Ferreira a $1,500 fine and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
