Seven BSX stocks fall

Butterfield Bank: The one stock to rise in BSX trading last week

Seven stocks lost value in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading last week — but The Royal Gazette/BSX Index still managed to eke out a small gain.

That was down to the one stock that gained, Butterfield Bank, which rose four cents, or 2.3 per cent, to close on $1.79 as 145,354 shares traded.

During the five days of trading, the Index rose 4.92 points, or 0.4 per cent, to close on 1,224.94. Trading volume was just shy of 170,000 shares and turnover topped $420,000.

Bermuda Paint Company owner Devonshire Industries was the biggest faller, shedding nearly half of its value as it slid to $3.01 from $6.

Telecommunications firm KeyTech also suffered a double-digit percentage decline, slumping 40 cents, or 13.8 per cent, to close on a new low of $2.50.

Argus Group also fell, dipping by 20 cents, or 5 per cent, to $3.80, while Bermuda Press (Holdings) also dipped by 5.1 per cent to a 16-year low share price of $6.50.

Somers, parent group of Bermuda Commercial Bank, fell 1.9 per cent to $13, while Polaris Holding Co, which owns Stevedoring Services, slipped 1.3 per cent to a new 52-week low share price of $3.11.

Insurer BF&M Ltd was another company to hit a 52-week low, as it slipped 0.1 per cent to close on $16.99.
