Man appears on firearm, ammunition charges

A Paget man charged with possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition was granted bail in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Eston Joell, 46, is accused of having a US Army model Colt 45, as well as five rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, in his possession in Paget on September 1.

He is also accused of possessing 14 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and more than 30 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition between a date unknown and September 1.

Mr Joell, who was represented by defence lawyer Elizabeth Christopher, was not required to enter a plea because the charges are indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted $20,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that Mr Joell report to Police three times a week, surrender all his travel documents and not leave the jurisdiction without permission of the courts.

The matter was adjourned to September 29 for mention.
