Man, 26, pleads guilty to drug possession

A Southampton man has admitted possessing crack and cannabis, as well as string of traffic offences.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Lekan Scott pleaded guilty to having 0.25 grams of crack and 0.33g of cannabis in his possession in Paget on January 16.

The 26-year-old also admitted two instances of driving without a licence, speeding at 80km/h and using a handheld device while driving.

The court heard that on January 16, police officers searched Scott, who was a passenger in a car they had stopped.

A red plastic container containing two brown paper twists and one clear plastic twist were recovered from his groin area.

The paper twists contained a rock-like substance, whereas the plastic twist contained plant material.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report, as well as a drug assessment, granted Scott $3,000 bail and adjourned sentencing for the drug offences to November 4.

Mr Tokunbo fined Scott $500 for speeding, $150 twice for driving without a licence and $300 for using a handheld device.

Scott was also given a total of 26 demerit points.
