Delray Rawlins and Kamau Leverock will take part in the second phase of the ICC Americas Cricket Combine in Indianapolis this week.

The pair will join 29 players from across the region in competing for a place in the ICC side that will play in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Nagico Super 50 tournament in January.

Players will take part in 50-over and Twenty20 games, with matches taking place from Friday to Sunday at the Indianapolis World Sports Park.

Phase one of the combine finished on Monday night, with 70 players bidding to win a spot in the next round.

Courtney Walsh, the former West Indies fast bowler, coached the fast bowlers and led one side in Monday’s Twenty20 intra-squad match.

“It [the combine] has been very competitive,” Walsh said. “The way they are playing over the past three days, you’d think they had played together before. The intensity they have shown has been tremendous.”

The combine began on Saturday morning, when prospects participated in athletics testing, followed by coaching and evaluation on their bowling, batting, and fielding.

Opposite Walsh was Venkatapathy Raju, the former India player, who worked largely with the spin bowlers.

“These men, they’ve got the skills and the ability to play cricket at a high level. They just need the fine tuning,” Raju said. “This combine is the right direction to go, for the players and for cricket in the Americas.”
