Wanted: East End tourism consultant

Full of history: St George's

A consultant is being sought to help implement a new cultural tourism plan in St George’s and St David’s.

According to an advertisement which appeared recently in The Royal Gazette, the Hub 1 Steering Committee is looking to hire a consultant for a one-year period to help implement or enhance cultural experiences in the east, develop a communication and marketing plan, identify working opportunities, create working groups, research and update the activity calender and increase overall demand and visitation to the area.

“In 2014, approximately 30 Hub 1 stakeholders representing multiple community and business sectors participated in a series of facilitated sessions,” the advertisement stated.

“The objective was to assess the unique cultural and environmental assets of the Town of St George’s and St David’s and identify related potential business and tourism development opportunities.

“Through a collaborative and strategic approach, a Hub 1 cultural tourism plan was developed.

“The goal is that the plan will ultimately help re-establish a vibrant East End community and economy providing authentic world-class cultural experiences for all while addressing and identifying new opportunities for 2015 and beyond.”

St George’s Mayor Quinell Francis said that the Corporation and other stakeholders are “energised” by the proposal to create a great cultural experience in the East End with the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

“We are quite thrilled that the advert is seeking a consultant to lead, which will be directed by the Steering Committee which the corporation has a representative on,” she said.

“The corporation is committed to supporting the revitalisation of the Old Town and the surroundings areas, and this is just another opportunity for the East End to shine. “We are quite enthused that an energised qualified individual is being sought, and we look forward to working with the successful applicant.”
