Southampton man on $200,000 drugs charges

A man appeared in court this morning accused of possessing $200,000 worth of drugs, including cocaine and heroin, with intent to supply.

Dwayne Gilbert is also charged with possessing $12,000 in cash, which prosecutors allege was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Mr Gilbert, 53, faces a total of five charges including three counts of possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply, possession of scales for use in the preparation of drugs and possessing the proceeds of crime.

The Southampton man, who was represented by lawyer Charles Richardson, did not have to enter pleas to the charges as they can only be heard at Supreme Court.

The offences are alleged to have taken place on August 12, 2014.

Mr Gilbert was released on bail until his next court appearance and was told to surrender his travel documents.
