Belco work causes power outage

Residents of Smith’s experienced halted electricity service yesterday as Belco worked on utility poles.

The power outage was planned and had been scheduled several weeks ago to enhance service reliability.

Customers who would be affected were sent letters advising them of the work, with more information available on Belco’s website and a large interruption notice in The Royal Gazette’s Classified section.

There were at least eight trucks working in the Knapton Hill area and many homes still had no power after 6pm as crews continued to work into the evening. A supply interruption is typical when carrying out refurbishment and maintenance work of this scale. A large number of poles were due for an upgrade.

Originally planned for the day before, it was rescheduled for yesterday due to the inclement weather — a date Belco had also forewarned.
