Sexual assault accused remanded

A 31-year-old has denied sexually assaulting a woman and holding her against her will.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault and deprivation of liberty at Supreme Court arraignments yesterday morning.

He also denied offences of prowling and burglary.

The four offences are alleged to have taken place in Devonshire on May 9 this year.

The man also denied a further charge of common assault that is said to have taken place on May 1 of this year.

The defendant was remanded into custody and will stand trial on February 1 next year.

In an unrelated case, Sherwon Ible pleaded not guilty to a serious attack on Richard Smith as well as possessing a five-inch blade in an increased penalty zone — close to Queen Elizabeth Park.

The offences are alleged to have taken place on June 13 this year.

Mr Ible, 30, was remanded into custody and is expected to stand trial on November 16.
