Blackwatch Pass to close for road work

Blackwatch Pass will be closed off to traffic starting tomorrow as road work in the area continues.

According to a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Public Works, the road will be closed until at least October 15 to allow for road improvements at the junction of North Shore Road and Blackwatch Pass.

“If there is inclement weather on these schedule dates, the work will continue on the following week,” the spokeswoman said. “Every effort will be made to open this road as quickly as possible. All traffic including buses and pedestrians will not be permitted to travel along Blackwatch Pass while this work takes place due to safety.

“The Department of Public Transportation would like to advise the public that number 11 buses travelling toward the City of Hamilton will take Langton Hill. All number 11 buses travelling from the city will use Berkeley Hill Road.

“The inbound and outbound bus stops at the Government Tennis Stadium will be closed for the duration of the road works. Passengers waiting for the bus should use the bus stops on St John’s Road near the St John’s Anglican Church instead.

“We apologise for any inconveniences this may cause.”

Construction work to create a roundabout at the junction was announced last year, with work at that time expected to be completed by the end of March.
