Police boat struck by sloop in Dockyard

Police report that minor damage was sustained to the service’s new Boston Whaler, the 32ft Heron 3, which was struck by a Bermuda sloop that lost control in high winds on Thursday.

The boat had been delivered that same day, and was secured at the dock, when the incoming sloop collided with it. The other vessel sustained no damage.

“Cosmetic” damage was inflicted on the police boat, a spokesman said, with its fluorescent wrap on the starboard side hit. There was no hull damage.

Meanwhile, Police Week is continuing today with open houses at the Hamilton, Southside and Dockyard stations from 10am to 3pm.

Police will also hold a memorial service at 11am tomorrow in the Police Cemetery, Prospect. There will be a Reserve Change of Command Ceremony at 6pm at the Prospect headquarters.
