Devonshire shares jump 50%

Stock surge: Shares of Devonshire Industries, owner of Bermuda Paint, rocketed in BSX trading

Shares in paint firm Devonshire Industries jumped $2 (50 per cent) today on the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX).

The company, which owns Bermuda Paint, ended the day at $6 after 1,500 shares traded.

The Bank of Butterfield was up four cents (2.2 per cent) at $1.84 after 3,000 shares changed hands.

The bank also announced yesterday in a filing with the BSX that it had bought back 70,160 of its own shares for treasury at an average price of $1.759 per share. There were no preference shares purchased.

Insurance group Argus fell 19 cents (4.8 per cent) to $3.81 after 1,200 shares sold.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index closed up 14.74 points (1.19 per cent) at 1,255.40.

The BSX Insurance Index was down 3.79 points (0.23 per cent) at 1,622.70.
