Long putter guidelines released

The ban on the anchored putting stroke will come into force on January 1, and there is still plenty of confusion as to what constitutes anchoring, and what does not.

Similarly, there are questions as to whether the long putter itself is a banned club, or just certain means of using it.

In order to try and clear up some of that confusion, the Royal and Ancient, golf’s governing body, have released a guide dealing with the implementation of Rule 14-1b, which will affect golfers at all levels of the game, not just professionals.

The Bermuda Golf Association have confirmed that the rule will be enforced in all tournaments on the Island, with a two-shot penalty assessed for every incidence of anchoring.
