Hundreds of children gathered with their parents at Police Field for the annual gymkhana.

The Bermuda Police Service held the family friendly event in Prospect on Saturday as part of its 136th anniversary celebrations.

During the day the children participated in cycling events, races, an obstacle course, and the “human hamster wheel”.

Officers were on hand to answer questions at the bike-focused event, giving demonstrations and allowing young people to test out horns, gears and sirens on custom police motorcycles — under careful supervision.

Participants could also speak to volunteers from Bicycle Works, Winners Edge, the Bermuda Bicycle Association, the Bermuda Cycle Academy and Noble Automotive, a training programme for aspiring mechanics.

The gymkhana tradition was re-established in 2007 to encourage relationships between young people and the police.
