The top man in the US arm of Hamilton Insurance Group has resigned after less than two years in the job.

Conan Ward, who was CEO of the Bermuda-based firm’s Hamilton USA, will be replaced on a temporary basis by the firm’s chief strategy officer Bob Deutsch.

Mr Deutsch will lead the hunt for a successor for Mr Ward.

Hamilton Insurance Group CEO Brian Duperreault said: “I want to thank Conan for his service to our organisation and his work in establishing a foundation for the development of our US operations.

“We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Mr Ward, a graduate of the US military training school West Point, joined Hamilton USA in February last year from his own consultancy firm in New Jersey.

Before establishing his own firm in the US, he was chief underwriting officer for Bermuda’s Validus Re from its founding to 2009.

Hamilton yesterday gave no explanation for the surprise resignation.
