Dr Spence, may God continue to bless you

Ready to serve: Gina Spence

The following letters are a response to Academics First, whose letter appeared on October 7

Dear Sir,

Wow! Why are there so many haters in this world? First, I have an issue with anyone who can call out someone by name and with picture attached, yet they cannot leave their own “real” name. I feel the letter, and most of the comments posted that felt the need to attack Gina Spence, is unwarranted.

I would understand if the writer wrote about the ceremony and all the recipients, but why single out Ms Spence? If the letter writer does not understand the process of someone being awarded an honorary doctorate degree, then perhaps it’s the writer who truly needs to attend school. It is one thing for one to inquire of such a process and to allow that person the opportunity (if she/he deems it necessary) to explain the process. The award has nothing to do with four years on the radio “silly billies”; it is in conjunction with all the years of servitude Ms Spence has unselfishly dedicated to this community that not even the writer can challenge. I know that anyone who knows Dr Gina Spence knows she is not caught up in titles, as she is a very humble human being, always ready to serve others.

Because she was awarded an honorary doctorate degree, she now must apologise? Please have a seat; in fact, have several seats as Her Excellency Dr Gina is in the house. May God continue to bless you as “who God blesses, no man can curse.”

ELIZABETH RICHARDSON

Dear Sir,

It is annoying reading “waste of time” writings from people who do not take the proper time out to research their information. They should get their facts correct before writing words to tear down one who does not deserve the rhetoric coming from that person.

I do not have to defend Her Excellency Dr Gina Spence, CDKA, JP because I know that, first, her faith is intact and, second, her many years of dedicated, unquestionable service to this community speaks for itself and, third, her work commitment to and through her organisation while dealing with her own giants more than qualifies her for whatever title or trophy any organisation or entity wishes to bestow upon her.

Her résumé is impeccable and she hides nothing. Finally, to the writer hiding behind the title Academics First (a title which is clearly questionable), I can only feel sorry for you because you don’t know the “hornets’ nest” you have disturbed in “your” realm. I just pray that you find your way before it is too late.

JANETTE SMITH

Dear Sir,

To the person who referred to themselves as Academics First, they clearly didn’t do their research. The information they gave about the institution was incorrect, which makes them look like a “silly billy” as they referred in their letter. The institution from which Dr Gina received her qualification is an accredited university and seminary, and all certifications received are authentic.

Therefore, I wish to point out that the writer appears to be a very angry, bitter, jealous person without substance. In my opinion, the youth in Bermuda are so angry because of persons like this who perpetuate discord by pulling down individuals unnecessarily with contempt and who also hide behind a fake name. This is not a good example to our youth.

The scripture says that if you have ought against your brother/sister, you should go to them. It also says to “touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm”.

I encourage Dr Gina because God will prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies. Trust me, God is not mocked: “What a man sows, that will he also reap.”
