Man, 24, fined for taking part in fight

A 24-year-old Paget man has been fined $500 for taking part in a fight on Front Street.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Geoffrey Willoughby pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place on October 3.

A second defendant in the matter did not appear before the court.

The court heard that police officers attended the fight involving two men outside of the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Both men, who were surrounded by a large crowd, were restrained and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

In court yesterday, Willoughby said the fight, which took place on his birthday weekend, was “a matter of intoxication”.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed Willoughby a $500 fine.
