After-school club enjoys a taste of Italy

Cooking up a storm: students from Warwick Academy’s after-school Bears Club were taught how to make a traditional and tasty pasta dish last week by the owner of City Café

Ever wonder what goes on at the after-school club at Warwick Academy?

There are different activities each week but the highlight last week included a very special guest, the owner of City Café, Vincenzo Della Valle, who is the father of Sofia (Y3) and Giovanni (reception).

He was invited to do a pasta demonstration for the after-school Bears Club.

Children learnt how to make “sciu-sciu” (Neapolitan for “quick-quick”), a traditional pasta dish consisting of only four ingredients: fresh tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and pasta. Of course, Parmesan cheese optional.

Along with learning a simple and healthy recipe, the children picked up a few Italian words.

They learn Spanish and French from reception year on up through primary, so adding Italian was a bonus.

The children enjoyed the pasta dish and exclamations could be heard such as “this is the best pasta ever” and “I’m telling my mom and dad how to make this”.
