It is still early days, but the business buzz created by the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Bermuda event continues to build.

Banks, restaurants, food suppliers and vendors have praised the positive effect the sailing spectacle has had on their business, and the promising knock-on effect they have seen from being closely linked with the prestigious competition.

The latest to express confidence in the value of being associated with the America’s Cup is insurer XL Catlin.

“We were really happy with this weekend, our branding included the first turning buoy and a number of other branded elements,” said Ashley Stockwell, chief marketing officer with XL Catlin.

The company is the official insurance partner of the America’s Cup, and also presenting partner of the event’s volunteer programme.

Mr Stockwell said the World Series weekend in Bermuda had allowed the company to entertain brokers and clients and give them “unique and exclusive experiences” linked to the sailing event.

International singer-songwriter Maxi Priest, who was one of the headliners at the America’s Cup concert on Front Street, visited the company’s offices on Bermudiana Road to meet staff. Many XL Catlin employees were involved in the weekend activities through the volunteering programme.

“A large number of our staff volunteered over the weekend and couldn’t help but get sense of the amazing atmosphere in Hamilton,” said Mr Stockwell.

And when asked if there had been an uptick in interest from potential new business clients, he said: “It’s very early days, but what we have observed is a huge amount of enthusiasm for our sponsorship from clients, brokers and colleagues alike.”

For Michael Dunkley, the World Series races in Bermuda showed that many business opportunities are being presented for the Island to grasp.

“America’s Cup 2017 has provided opportunities we must tap into and the Louis Vuitton World Series racing has shown those opportunities abound for those that grasps them; from the small vendors through the spectrum of business,” the Premier said.

“This Government, with the support of America’s Cup Event Authority and ACBDA, has created an environment for the opportunity to become reality.

“The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Bermuda this weekend has created and fostered the positive interest we expected.”
