The mother of a man killed in a road crash has told how her “heart aches” for the driver of the car.

Kathy Woodley’s son, Nikko Robinson-Woodley, died when his friend Bryan Daniel smashed into a tree in January last year.

Daniel, 25, of Warwick, was found guilty on Monday of causing death by dangerous driving.

Ms Woodley embraced him outside the Supreme Court and said last night she had no bitter feelings towards her late son’s close friend.

She told ‘The Royal Gazette’: “I never felt any hate towards Bryan at all. I just imagine him having to try to live with this.

“For him to have this on his mind — my heart just goes out to him. I am a mother and he has a family as well. My heart aches for him to have to carry this.

“I am hoping that he is going to try to forgive himself so he can move on.

“Every time I saw him I always embraced him and hugged him because he needed it. It is tough on everybody.

“There are no bitter feelings towards Bryan. I just can’t be like that. My son would have never wanted that; my son was a loyal friend. Bryan is young and hopefully has a long life ahead of him. I have forgiven him.”

Speaking about the outcome of the trial, Ms Woodley said it was difficult but she felt somewhat relieved.

“It is really tough because it just brought everything back to light from last year when we received the news,” she said. “It was never going to be a win-win situation because Nikko is not coming back and Bryan was his really good friend, so it is just a really sad situation. I am relieved it is over because it has been a long time waiting for this.

“I didn’t know what happened — I never listen to the gossip on the streets, I was just waiting until the trial.

“It is still not over because we don’t know what is going to happen when Bryan has to go back to court.

“I would like to get the message out that I want people to take their time on the roads, be cautious, be mindful of other people on the roads and consider the passengers who are in the car with you.

“Make better choices when it comes to driving on the roads.”
