Tiny the Tree Frog is taking on the America’s Cup as part of his next children’s book — the first to be sold internationally.

Author Elizabeth Mulderig said she worked alongside the America’s Cup team for the project, and was excited to discover that they intended to sell the book at their stores in the United States.

“This will be the first time Tiny has made it into stores overseas, which is very exciting,” she said.

Mulderig said the concept of the book, ‘Tiny Wins the America’s Cup’, came about after the announcement that the international sporting event would take place in the Island.

“Everyone in Bermuda is just starting to understand the enormity of hosting the America’s Cup, especially after the races that have just taken place,” she said. “The wind plays a major role in everything.”

Mulderig said she was not much of a sailor, so she tasked her brother Robert Mulderig — a past Marion Bermuda winner — and her husband with helping develop the story.

“At one point, I had painted the boats backwards,” she said. “So I repainted the picture.

“They helped me use the correct terminology as well. They saved me from calling the mainsail ‘that string thing’ and the tiller ‘the steering stick’.

“In any case, I certainly could not have written or illustrated the book without them.”

She said the story itself was inspired in part by Bermuda’s official motto, Quo Fata Ferunt.

“Having been told it means wither the winds blow us, I had the winds take Tiny in a completely odd fashion through the race,” she said.

“In a way, Tiny is a symbol of our tiny island being involved in such an enormous honour.”
