Tree trimming safety warning

Belco has urged the public to be careful while cutting back trees

Electricity provider Belco has urged residents to stay safe while trimming their trees.

The announcement comes after The Ministry of Public Works warned homeowners that their trash collection could be halted if they failed to trim overhanging trees and hedges.

A Belco spokeswoman advised caution to those cutting back trees situated close to power lines.

She added that arrangements can be made to interrupt power while work is carried out. The service is free, although the company requires three weeks advance notice for requests.
