Our goal should be preventing diabetes

No easy way out: cannabis may delay diabetes but will not stop the disease, a reader writes

Dear Sir,

In regard to your headline in today’s The Royal Gazette “Cannabis ‘can delay diabetes’” (RG, November 2, 2015) and how the drug affects the disease, I honestly don’t get it.

As the word “delay” indicates, you will still get the disease. How about not getting the disease at all? Wow. What a concept.

Shouldn’t that be our goal? For ourselves and for our children? (Parents affect their children’s eating habits; the same habits they will take with them into adulthood).

We need to stop making the wrong eating choices and looking for easy ways out. Cannabis is not an easy way out; it may delay diabetes, but it won’t stop it. Ticktock, ticktock ...

Sincerely, MARK EMMERSON
