Daniels claims maiden professional triumph in Arizona

Off the mark: Terence Daniels

Terence Daniels’s wait for a maiden professional victory is over.

The Bermuda golfer achieved the feat playing on the Dream Chaser Tour in Arizona last week.

He did so in dramatic fashion, nailing a pressure-soaked four foot birdie putt on the last green to win the 36-hole tournament at the Duke at Rancho El Dorado golf course by a single shot.

“I knew I had to make it to win, so it felt great to pull it off, Daniels said. “It felt amazing!”

The narrow victory was particularly sweet for a player who has endured his share of challenges lately.

“I haven’t been playing competitively in 18 months due to injury and personal issues,” Daniels said. “But I’ve been working on my game the last couple of months and it’s good to see the results pay off.

“The last couple of months I’ve been really focused on my short game and the mental aspect of the game. The golf, itself, is the same. But the difference is between the ears.

“In professional golf each shot is worth so much because there are dollar signs. One shot could be the difference first place and second-place cheque, as was the case in my tournament.”

Breaking his professional duck and conquering a formidable field has done Daniels’s confidence the world of good.

“Going into the event I really didn’t have expectations,” he said. “But after the victory I now know that I can win as a pro. I beat some good players and my confidence is high.”

Daniels will now look to build on his momentum when he tees off at this month’s Gosling’s Invitational at Belmont Hills where he placed third overall a few years ago as an amateur.

“I am very excited to be returning for the Gosling’s Invitational this year,” he said. “It is Bermuda’s largest professional event and I expect another great field this year. I will be proud to be representing Bermuda against some great international talent.”
