A beauty and massage salon is celebrating nearly two years in business by expanding.

Northern Rose Salon has recruited experienced beauty therapist Ella Gerassimova to the team — increasing the range of treatments on offer.

Owner Caroline Foster said the new recruit boosted the team to three.

And Ms Foster added that Ms Gerassimova would be offering a ten per cent discount on her specialities as an introductory offer throughout this month, with the discount available on production of this article.

She said: “Ella specialises in manicures, pedicures and facials. I specialise in deep tissue massage and trigger point — I treat small injuries to necks, shoulders, backs, that kind of thing.

“I’ve started to deal with a lot of triathletes and other sports people like boxers and runners.”

Ms Gerassimova added: “I do a lot of anti-ageing treatments and things for oily and dry skin. I also do lash extensions using a new technique and I do electrolysis to remove hair, which is more permanent than waxing.”

But she said: “The thing I like to do is facials. Clients have a consultation so we can see how the skin looks to see if there is flaking, whether they have big pores or small pores, that kind of thing.”

Ms Gerassimova added that damage to skin caused by exposure to the sun was a major problem in Bermuda.

She said: “People struggle with pigmentation and skin damage, so moisturising is big because the sun damages skin so much.

“People need to use cleanser, moisturiser and sun protection — they shouldn’t go outside without that, not only ladies but gentlemen as well.”

The Northern Rose premises, on the second floor of the Hamilton Building at 10 Queen Street in Hamilton, boasts two supersized treatment rooms, one for massage and the other for beauty therapy.

Northern Star uses Dermalogica skin care products, the OPI range for nails and products from French firm Misencil for lash extensions.

Treatments include a variety of massages, including specialist sports and deep tissue treatments, waxing, ear piercing and tinting for eyelashes and eyebrows.

Ms Foster said: “We have done really well since we opened and we’re coming up to our second birthday.

“We’re steadily busy — enough to keep three of us employed.

“There are a lot of salons that have opened up, but we have a good existing clientele and a loyal following. I work six days a week and I’m usually booked every day.”
