Bermuda will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week with nearly 40 events and activities.

Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) chairman Nicholas Kempe said that the Global Entrepreneurship Conference, held in Milan, Italy, earlier this year had recognised Bermuda’s commitment to promoting new business ideas.

Mr Kempe added: “Bermuda was recognised as having the most events and partners per capita of any country in the world.”

He added that two young Bermudian entrepreneurs, EJ Burrows and Connor Burns, had won first place in the international Future Agro Challenge, held in Greece last year.

“Bermuda has indeed swung well above its weight in showing the world that entrepreneurial activity flourishes on this small island.”

Mr Kempe was speaking at the official launch of the event at the Ace building in Hamilton, which was attended by the junior Home Affairs Minister Sylvan Richards and US Consul General Mary Ellen Noonan Koenig.

Organisers used the event to present certificates to 40 young entrepreneurs who successfully completed this year’s BizCamp, designed to help turn business dreams into reality.

Erica Smith, BEDC executive director, said: “I am looking forward to this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week as the team has managed to surpass the bar set last year in terms of events.

“If you are new to business or thinking about starting one you must take advantage of the myriad of educational, networking and promotional opportunities.

“This initiative serves as a celebration of those risk-takers that will lead Bermuda’s recovery.”

Mr Richards added: “I encourage any interested entrepreneur, existing or yet-to-be, to take part in the many events planned for Global Entrepreneurship Week and I thank the Bermuda host committee for organising such a worthwhile event.”

Global Entrepreneurship Week runs from November 16 to 22. Some related events and activities will be taking place before the official week begins.
