Lasting reminder of Woolcock’s talent
Dear Sir,
I have recently begun a love of original art, especially wildlife. I buy mainly from eBay. I love to bring the paintings to life by finding out about the artists who painted them.
A picture of two donkeys caught my eye and I successfully bid for it. It was not signed but someone had handwritten “Peter Woolcroft” on the back in ink. A Google search gave no matches.
When it arrived a few weeks ago, I was unsure if it was an original as it was framed and behind glass. It was well taped up, so I hung it.
After a few weeks, something compelled me to open it. Inside it became obvious that it was indeed an original and was an illustration from a book. “Baby animals page 5” or words to that effect.
Handwritten in pencil on the mount was Peter Woolcroft but on the actual painting back in pencil was Peter Woolcock.
I Googled this new name and found out all about the Peter you know so well.
Then I saw your newspaper article telling of his sad death.
I love the painting and truly admire the talent, and am so sad he has passed away.
My condolences to his family and I promise to always enjoy the legacy of his talents that he has left behind.
Yours sincerely, CATH WRIGHT, Bradford, England
