Somerset Trojans 0

Dandy Town 2

Dandy Town snatched all three points at Somerset Cricket Club and then made a hasty retreat out of the ground and onto their team bus.

Emotions threatened to boil over after the final whistle, with a group of young spectators congregating near the main gate as the Dandy Town bus pulled away.

Earlier, just after Tomiko Goater scored the first of his two goals, the match was held up for five minutes while security moved a group of fans from behind the Dandy Town goal, after stones had been thrown at Ajai Daniels, the young Town goalkeeper.

Goater’s two first half goals were scored in similar fashion after the Somerset defence had been split open by good passes from midfield. The first came in the 21st minute when Angelo Simmons was sent through into the box on the right side, and his low cross into the six-yard box was tapped home by Goater, who wasn’t picked up after he ran into the box.

Both teams were coming off Dudley Eve Trophy semi-final losses a week ago, but it was Town who looked the more fluent. Goater doubled the Town lead in the 35th minute, turning in a Quadir Maynard cross from six yards out.

Shaquille Bean was being kept busy in the Somerset goal and was called on to save a shot from Jason Symonds, following a corner on the right that wasn’t cleared.

Then right on half time Damon Ming hooked a left-footed shot over the bar as the Somerset defence allowed him space.

Somerset came out with more purpose in the second half and they enjoyed a good spell, but did not seriously test the goalkeeper. And their problems continued in the 69th minute when Taj-rae Outerbridge was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Town did have the ball in the net a third time, but K’wonde Lathan’s effort was ruled out for offside.

Goater was denied his hat-trick at the last when Simmons had a shot parried by Bean before Goater, had his rebound blocked by Sean Brangman.
