People are urged to be vigilant regarding phone calls, e-mails and other correspondence from unknown persons that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.

According to Bermuda Police Service, reports were received on Monday of a man calling local residents claiming to be a Microsoft technician or representative from California.

The unknown caller stated that he was calling to assist in the prevention of hacking into the home computer. It was the latest in a long line of similar incidents reported to police.

In a press release, police stressed members of the public should be wary of anyone calling to provide instructions regarding upgrading computer security or banking detail verification.
