The war against immorality and impropriety

Raising concerns: a reader says many religious people on the Island believe that proposals to allow same-sex marriage will adversely affect the social fabric of our community

Dear Sir,

This message is addressed to all those who believe that the war between the desires of the flesh and the willingness of the spirit is a new one, because if you do, I have news for you.

Biblically, this war began in the garden of Eden when Adam, the first man created by God, was faced with a situation that caused him to make the most crucial decision of his life.

Adam’s decision came about with a sequence of events he had not experienced before, but rather than stand upon the specific instructions (Genesis 2:16-17) he had been given, he decided that he knew “how to” fix the problem better than anyone else, including God.

The question: what was the situation that Adam found himself being confronted with?

The response: he was introduced to the serpent who was more subtil (subtle) than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. (Genesis 3:1-5)

The question: what was Adam doing as this sequence of events was unfolding?

The response: he was standing there watching the entire sequence of events unfold, but he said nothing about it, nor did he do anything about it. That is, until he made the fateful decision that would change his life ... for ever. (Genesis 3:6)

As a result of Adam’s fateful decision, you, as a confessed believer and worshipper of the one and only living God, choose to stand there and watch what is going on, say nothing, and do nothing to change what is going on, then you, just like Adam, you too agree with what is going on, and then by your implied consent, you subscribe to what is going on, and sooner or later you just may find yourself actively participating in what is going on. (Genesis 3:6).

This never-ending war between the desires of the flesh and the willingness of the spirit is rearing its ugly head in our community with governmental consideration for introducing same-sex marriage becoming law, but we, the people, do believe this proposed law will adversely affect the social fabric of our community and will not take a passive role because, if and when we do, we will be giving our implied consent once again for our moral and spiritual decay.

To overcome this problem, we, the people, must stand up together, individually and collectively, and take whatever steps are deemed both ethically and legally necessary to eliminate any unjust laws, (existing or pending) without question, doubt, or fear of reprisal because we must fervently voice what must be spoken. Jesus Christ is our role model and it is he who set the standard of performance and the level of expectation for our behaviour (Matthew 4:3-11) when he stood up, faced and defeated the wiles of the ruler of darkness (Ephesians 6:12).

And he is the one who said: “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before the Father which is in heaven, but whosoever shall deny me before men, Him will I also deny before the Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33).

The fact of the matter:

It is the duty of every believer to be proactive in the war against the wiles of immorality and impropriety in our community because waiting for victory over them by way of the law, or by the courts that are swayed by politicians, businessmen and secret societies filled with judges and lawyers who protect their own interests rather than using their authority to reinforce justice and fair play have established that they are not the most effective method for us to achieve them.

If you doubt the validity of the aforementioned statement, please examine the following statements and tell me which of them is untrue.

How is it that alcohol is legal but certain drugs are not when alcohol is globally responsible for more deaths and property damage than those certain drugs combined?

How is that insurance companies can charge a premium for health coverage, but then they limit those amounts they will pay for claims?

How is it that garages can charge extortionist fees for services but not have qualified mechanics on staff with the skills to fix the problems?

How is it that government leaders receive massive salaries coupled with perks such as free travel, catered lunches and free vehicles, but the people have to live with limited services because tools, equipment and personnel are handicapped by budget constraints?

How is it that we elect politicians to represent our interests, but they bow to businessmen, banks, insurance companies and “special interest groups” by giving them exemptions and allowances?

The fact of the matter:

Because we, the people, stand by and watch what is going on — saying nothing and doing nothing.
