Nine months in jail for burglar

A 22-year-old Sandys man was handed a nine-month prison sentence for burglary this morning.

Stevon Swan Richardson, who is currently serving a sentence for cheating a taxi fare and has been remanded in custody on another matter, pleaded guilty to breaking into a property on Scaur Hill Drive on September 4 and taking a number of items as well as a sum of cash.

The court heard how the resident of the property returned home to discover a screwdriver lodged under a window sill and that the interior of the house had been “ransacked”.

The stolen items included a watch, an iPad Nano and iPad Touch, a charger, a bottle of vodka, a bottle of gin, some food and a knapsack which came to the value of $2,637.
